Steve grew up in construction, the son of a Rochester, NY general contractor and developer who foresaw Xerox’s meteoric rise in the region and built to meet it. After earning a degree in Marketing and Advertising in 1981, Steve strapped on a tool belt “to fill time” while seeking his dream job as a TV commercial producer. Eight months later, he decided he could run a construction company as well as anyone he was working for. He was right.

As the owner of two successful Florida custom home building firms, Steve both competed and collaborated with a fellow Florida custom builder, Bob Dylewksi, Bronco’s founder. Building friendship and admiration that remain to this day – not to mention a legacy of beautiful and enduring houses – Steve and Bob spoke for years of someday working together.

Bob moved Bronco up to Western North Carolina in 1998. In 2002, Steve joined Bronco as Project Manager, after first taking a welcome break from the industry and the 90-hour weeks he had long logged in Florida. Now, Steve says, he’s working again with the fresh excitement he felt at the beginning – plus the wisdom gained through nearly 30 years of experience. This combination makes him an ideal advocate for each owner’s aspirations.

“One of Bronco’s clients called me two or three times a week while we were building her house,” Steve recalls, “and we talked for an hour or 90 minutes each time. Sometimes, her house never even came up, but these calls were all vital to the project, so I was glad to have the time, and to take it. The houses Bronco builds aren’t cut and dried, and each client we serve is unique. It’s important that we understand our clients well enough to realize their dreams for their houses.

“In a sense,” Steve observes, “each of our houses is its owners’ self-portrait. We’re proud that our owners enjoy what they see.”
